The term “daily wearer” never stood out to me if I’m being honest. Because at the end of the day, it sort of defeats the purpose of owning numerous watches, right? That was until the Longines Legend Diver (LLD) entered my rotation. The more I think about it, for once, I felt that if there was a watch that I could actually wear continuously, it might just be the LLD.
So that got my mind working. What are the things that make this LLD daily worthy? Because honestly, I still don’t believe in the “one watch for all” idea as there will be compromises to be made regardless of how good a watch is. Just like camera lenses, you never get everything in one package, right?
With the initial thought that kickstarted this topic, the LLD has four aspects that might just be what I look for in a good daily. Of course, my definition might differ from yours and I’d love to hear about different takes on a daily watch. Here are mine.
Firstly, a watch that is daily worthy needs to have decent water resistance. One that will have no issues when it’s raining or when dish washing duty calls. No, we don’t necessarily need 200 meters, but you get the point. It’s a sense of security to know that your watch wouldn’t need much babying when it gets wet out there. However, as always, this really boils down to the lifestyle of the wearer. If most of ones time is spent in the office, why bother about water resistance right?
Next up, a good daily should have a strap/bracelet that fits the climate. Being someone who sweats buckets, appreciation is found in straps or bracelets that are comfortable, washable and don’t stink after countless days of wear. At least for me, I don’t want to make my lovely bespoke straps stink when I’m out in hot and humid weather. Taking the mesh bracelet on the LLD for example, it can both take a beating while being very comfortable to wear. Which brings me to my next point, how a case wears, as size does indeed matter. In particular, the weight distribution of the watch. The watch has to be comfortable to wear in terms of how well balanced it is if it were to be worn the entire day.
Lastly, a personal preference, the amount of attention that the watch catches. Personally, something that catches the least amount of attention is the best daily wearer for me. To wrap up, here’s the question, what’s a good daily wearer to you?
