Let’s be real, we live in a time where it’s a norm to see random people wear fancy timepieces on their wrists. But if we put a little more thought into why we wear what we wear, do we really have an answer? I believe we do. Come on, everyone has a reason. What separates one from the other might simply be the depth of thought that is being put into it as it varies from person to person. To some, a timepiece is worn as a status symbol while to some, it’s just a tool. The cool thing is, there’s never a wrong answer. Because, there was never a correct answer to start with.
If we’re being honest, a watch today seems to be more of a want than a need. I mean, think about it, we have our phones by our side wherever we go, we have our laptops while we’re working, and we even have televisions that tell us the time while we’re home. So why wear watches?
Personally, the answer is rather simple, it’s how a watch makes me feel. Of course, it has to still tell the time, but truth be told, the functional aspect of a watch was never the main point to begin with. It’s honestly less about how well it keeps time but more so how it matches my mood for the day. Just like how wearing my Orient Sun & Moon brings me back to when I was 17, I guess every enthusiast has a watch that makes them feel a certain way and hence making it a reason to wear them.
So, why do you wear what you wear? Think about it while you’re putting a watch on next time, as this might lead you to further discover and understand your perspective towards timepieces in a way that you’ve never thought of. Because at the end of the day, wearing a watch that makes you feel happy is all that matters.
